F8 (Rose) Reading Pen
Fixed-content OID 3.0 reading pen on the AK1053C platform with soldered NAND flash, five rose-petal front buttons, front LED and MIC, Mini USB and a 300 mAh rechargeable battery. No card socket to fail — purpose-built for high-volume single programs, curated gift sets and licensed titles.
The F8 (Rose) Reading Pen is our fixed-content specialist: a slim rose-themed pen built on the AK1053C platform with five front buttons, a front-facing LED and microphone, and soldered NAND flash instead of a card socket. When the audio program is final and will never change in the field, the F8 removes the card slot as a failure point entirely. In the industry these devices are also widely called talking pens.
That makes the F8 the natural choice for high-volume single programs — curated gift sets, licensed single-title products and fixed curriculum packs. It still reads OID 3.0 codes with the small SONIX tip and works fully offline; your audio is flashed into the built-in NAND at the factory.
Key features
OID 3.0 recognition
Third-generation optical identification on the small SONIX tip reads OID codes on books, flashcards and posters quickly and reliably.
AK1053C platform
A dedicated main-control chipset for compact fixed-content pens, paired with direct NAND storage for a simple, dependable bill of materials.
Small pen tip
The smaller SONIX tip supports fine page layouts and precise tapping on flashcards and detailed picture books.
Soldered NAND flash
Audio is flashed into built-in NAND flash in the factory — no card socket to fail, no way for users to delete or misconfigure content.
Five rose-petal buttons
Five front buttons arranged as a rose vine give direct control of playback and volume, with a front LED and front MIC for voice features.
300 mAh battery
A built-in rechargeable lithium battery charges through the Mini USB port; the front LED keeps power and reading status visible.

Typical applications
Fixed gift sets
A red rose pen plus a defined stack of board books or flashcards as one finished SKU — every unit identical, nothing for the customer to configure.
Licensed single titles
For licensed characters and one-off title programs, NAND storage protects the audio master and prevents accidental content changes in the field.
Fixed curriculum packs
Publishers running one stable curriculum year after year get the simplest support profile: no cards, no updates, no compatibility questions.
High-volume promotional programs
The streamlined hardware and fixed firmware make the F8 well suited to large promotional and retail programs where serviceability matters more than extensibility.

OEM customization on the F8
The F8 uses existing production tooling, so customization starts at much lower volumes than a brand-new housing project:
- Custom colors — plastic compound matched to your Pantone plaque on the same glossy finish; cap, tip and petal details can follow your brand palette.
- Logo and branding — pad printing on the housing and custom-printed gift boxes, manuals and inserts.
- Fixed audio and languages — your master recording is flashed into NAND during production; see how to prepare audio and OID print files.
- Firmware features — the front MIC supports voice features enabled in the project firmware; tell us which interaction your program needs and engineering will confirm the configuration.
- Need expandable storage instead? — If titles will be added after sale, the external-TF K7 or L5 is the better fit; the components guide explains the trade-off.
See OEM vs ODM reading pen customization options for how color runs, logo work, packaging and new tooling are quoted.

Frequently asked questions
Why would I choose NAND flash instead of a TF card?
NAND is soldered onto the board and flashed in the factory, so there is no card socket to wear out and no way for end users to delete or swap content. It is the lower-risk choice when a program ships one fixed set of audio forever; expanding libraries are better served by external-TF models like the K7.
Can the audio be changed after production?
Not by the end user — that is the point of the fixed-content design. New production batches can ship with updated audio, and engineering can advise whether your program requires a service configuration.
What is the front microphone for?
The front MIC hardware is included for voice-related features that are enabled in the project firmware, such as recording-style practice interactions. Tell us your pedagogical requirement and we will confirm the supported feature set.
Is the F8 suitable for very young children?
The compact housing and small tip are commonly used with preschool flashcards and board books under adult supervision. For chunky large-tip housings designed for the youngest users, compare the B1 and P2.
Does it support multiple languages?
The pen itself is language-neutral: it plays whatever audio is flashed onto the NAND, so English, Spanish, Arabic, French, Russian and bilingual programs are all supported.
