Flagship OID 3.0 reading pen with a 2.4-inch 320x240 color TFT screen and video playback, powered by the SONIX 73001 chip with front MIC, two front and three side buttons, built-in TF storage up to 32 GB, side Micro USB and a 600 mAh rechargeable battery. The top specification for multimedia curricula, electronics retail and high-end gift channels.

The Q8 Reading Pen is the flagship of the range — the model for programs that genuinely need a screen. A 2.4-inch 320×240 color TFT display drives a visual menu interface and video playback, powered by the advanced SONIX 73001 chip with OID 3.0 recognition, a front microphone and built-in TF storage up to 32 GB. In the industry these devices are also widely called talking pens.

Two front buttons and three side buttons keep navigation direct, the side-mounted Micro USB port keeps the screen bezel clean, and a 600 mAh battery supports the extra power load of a color display. For electronics-retail shelves, high-end gift channels and multimedia curricula that combine books, audio and video, the Q8 is the top specification we produce.

Key features

OID 3.0 + SONIX 73001

Our most advanced reading-pen chipset combines third-generation OID recognition with the processing needed for color menus and video playback.

2.4-inch color TFT

A 320×240 color display renders a visual app menu, track information and video — a completely different interaction level from dot-matrix models.

Video playback

Multimedia curricula can pair OID books with video lessons, animations and spoken-word video clips played directly on the pen.

TF storage up to 32 GB

Built-in TF card support up to 32 GB provides room for large audio libraries plus video content, configured per project.

Five-button control + MIC

Two front buttons and three side buttons navigate the screen menus, with a front microphone for voice features and a 3.5 mm earphone jack.

600 mAh battery

Typical applications

Multimedia curricula

Programs that pair printed OID books with video lessons, animated phonics or talking-head explanations run the full media mix on one device.

Electronics-retail flagship

A color screen is the shelf feature that separates a premium reading pen from the audio-only row; the Q8 anchors the top of a retail assortment.

High-end gift channels

Pen-plus-books-and-video gift sets give premium buyers a demonstrable upgrade: tap the page, hear the audio, watch the lesson.

Large multi-title libraries

Storage up to 32 GB supports ambitious catalogs — multi-level courses, several languages and bundled video without swapping cards.

Micro-SD up to 32 GB, holding approximately 6,000 audio books or 30+ hours of video.

"How long does the Q8 battery last?"

The 600 mAh battery delivers 4–5 hours of video playback or 6–7 hours of audio reading. Standby is 120+ days.

OEM customization on the Q8

The Q8 uses existing production tooling, so customization starts at much lower volumes than a brand-new housing project:

  • Custom colors — plastic compound matched to your Pantone plaque for the housing and bezel trim.
  • Logo and branding — pad printing on the housing and custom-printed premium retail boxes, manuals and inserts.
  • Screen UI — menu structure, icons and language strings are configured per firmware build; provide your UI flow and content plan and engineering confirms the build.
  • Audio and video mastering — file preparation for large mixed-media libraries; see how to prepare audio and OID print files and ask sales for the current video format specification.
  • Family alternatives — Do students really need video? A dot-matrix status display costs less: compare the Y6; the model selection guide helps position the line.

See OEM vs ODM reading pen customization options for how color runs, logo work, packaging and new tooling are quoted.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Q8 screen a touchscreen?

The 2.4-inch TFT is a color display with navigation through the two front and three side buttons. Exact firmware interaction (menus, playback and video controls) is configured per project — request the current UI specification from sales.

What video content can it play?

The Q8 supports video playback for curriculum media loaded on the internal TF storage. Supported formats, resolution and file preparation rules are firmware-specific and provided with the Q8 specification sheet so your content team masters files correctly.

How is the Q8 different from the Y6 and KF1?

The Y6 and KF1 use small dot-matrix LCDs for text and status only; the Q8 uses a 2.4-inch color TFT capable of video and a visual icon menu, backed by the SONIX 73001 chip, up to 32 GB storage and a 600 mAh battery.

Do we need video, or is an audio pen enough?

Most reading programs succeed on audio alone, and a dot-matrix or button model leaves more budget margin. Choose the Q8 when video lessons are central to the pedagogy or when the channel demands a flagship screen SKU — the selection guide walks through the decision.

Can the UI and menus be in our language?

Yes. Menu strings and audio/video content are configured per firmware build, so bilingual and non-Latin interfaces are routine. Confirm your target languages when requesting a quotation.
